Mangrove Replanting Project Passes 100,000-Tree Milestone
By Sokari Fyneface· 27 June 2026
A community-led mangrove replanting project has passed the milestone of 100,000 trees planted since it began four years ago, restoring stretches of coastline that had eroded significantly over past decades.
Volunteers, many of them students, plant seedlings during the dry season and monitor survival rates through the following wet season.
'Every mangrove root we put back in the ground is also a wall against the water taking more land from us,' said project coordinator Aleruchi Fyneface.
