Primary Health Centre Introduces Free Maternal Care for Riverine Wards
By Ibiba Amachree· 27 June 2026
A primary health centre serving riverine wards has begun offering free maternal care, covering antenatal visits, delivery, and a first postnatal checkup, in partnership with a state maternal health initiative.
Health officials say the programme is targeted at communities where the nearest paid facility can be a costly boat ride away, a barrier that has historically kept some women from seeking care until complications arose.
In its first month, the centre recorded 45 antenatal registrations, more than triple the previous monthly average.
