The Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council has sponsored more than 60 young people for a comprehensive vocational and technical skills acquisition programme aimed at equipping them with practical skills for self-employment, entrepreneurship, and long-term economic empowerment.

The initiative, championed by the Chairman of the Council, Chief Barr. Vincent Nemieboka, FCIA, DSSRS, JP, underscores the administration's commitment to investing in human capital as a catalyst for sustainable development.

The beneficiaries are currently undergoing intensive training in high-demand technical trades, including plumbing and pipe fitting, electrical installation, welding and fabrication, bricklaying, and other vocational disciplines that offer viable career opportunities in today's economy.

In addition to providing access to quality technical training, the Council is fully sponsoring the participants' welfare throughout the programme, enabling them to focus entirely on acquiring practical skills and preparing for productive careers.

The skills acquisition programme forms part of the Chairman's broader youth empowerment and economic development agenda, which seeks to reduce unemployment, promote entrepreneurship, and build a skilled workforce capable of driving growth across Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area.

Council officials say the initiative reflects the administration's belief that empowering young people with employable skills remains one of the most effective ways to combat poverty, stimulate local enterprise, and foster inclusive economic development.

For the beneficiaries, the programme represents far more than vocational training. It offers a pathway to financial independence, self-reliance, and improved livelihoods. For the wider community, it is expected to contribute to the development of a stronger local economy supported by skilled artisans, tradespeople, and entrepreneurs.

As Ogu/Bolo continues to invest in education, technical training, and youth development, the Council hopes initiatives such as this will inspire more young people to embrace vocational careers while contributing meaningfully to the social and economic progress of the Local Government Area.
