Women's Union Opens First Community-Run Daycare Near Central Market
By Dumo Green· 25 June 2026
The women's union has opened the community's first daycare centre near the central market, giving traders a safe place to leave young children while they work.
The centre, staffed by trained caregivers and funded through union dues and a small daily fee, can accommodate up to 40 children at a time.
'Before this, some of us just tied the baby to our back all day at the stall. Now the baby naps properly and we can actually focus on selling,' said trader and union member Ibiba Wonodi.
